EXTENSOR DIGITORUM MUSCLE

It is the muscle of the forearm lies at the posterior aspect of forearm. It is the muscle which helps in extensions of digits or fingers.

ORIGIN

  • Lateral epicondyle of humerus.

INSERTION

  • It is divided into the 4 tendons for 2nd to 5th fingers and inserted at their base.

NERVE SUPPLY

Posterior interosseous branch of radial nerve.

BLOOD SUPPLY

Posterior interosseous artery.

FUNCTION

  • Extensor of elbow.
  • Extensor of wrist.
  • Slightly abducts index finger.
  • Extensor of metacarpophalangeal joint.
