Supracondylar humerus fracture is the fracture of the distal part of the humerus. This fracture occurs at above to medial and lateral condyle and above the elbow joint. It may be transverse fracture or oblique fracture. It is the most common fracture in pediatrics.
CAUSES
It usually happens due to falling on an outstretched hand. It may also cause due to any pathological reasons like infection and osteoporosis, etc. or due to accident.
SYMPTOMS
- Pain in the elbow joint.
- Unable to move.
- Numbness in hand
- Swelling.
- Tenderness at the site of fracture.
DIAGNOSIS
Your doctor will first examine physically with the help of symptoms. And then to find out the severity of fracture doctor will recommend for radiological diagnosis-
- X-ray
- MRI
TREATMENT
The treatment is depend on the severity-
- Medication for reducing pain, swelling.
- Some calcium and multi vitamins, multiminerals for proper growth of bone.
- If fracture is severe then surgery is done like- internal fixator is used .
